Hasbro Review roundup: My Little Pony G4 (SCRIPT)
Greetings everyone, and welcome to the end, of the beginning. Listen to our fable of Friendship and Magic! My Little Pony is one of my favorite shows ever made, Transformers is my favorite Hasbro brand, but My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is one of the best things Hasbro had put out in the modern times. I was there to witness its rainbow colored explosion of its birth and popularity, and I watched it die twice. But come on, My Little Pony may have been originally a girls' brand at Hasbro, but the show played out its role in making the toy industry more gender-neutral, so I'm not going to cover every side story, every bit of trivia, and every character that could be mentioned like a easter egg type thing, so I'm going to cover most of the brand's existence with G4 and what it's like growing up with this show that I spent my Mid-to-late teen years with this show. and It's STILL an hour long! Let's do this... (Crunching sound) Oh... I broke my magic horn! My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic was the fourth generation of My Little Pony toys and related media (G4 for short) launched to test markets in August 2010 followed by a full release in November 2010 to coincide with the launch of the namesake cartoon series as a launch title for the newly launched television network The Hub that debuted on October 10, 2010. Originally conceptualized by Lauren Faust under the title "My Little Pony Adventures", the series started development in 2008 after Hasbro partnered with Paramount Pictures to release the wildly successful Live-action Transformers film directed by Michael Bay, released in 2007. It's hard to imagine a world where Friendship is Magic concluded in 2013, but that was originally the plan. Until then, Most Hasbro cartoons up to that point were either 3-seasoners like the Transformers cartoons and the Direct-to-video movies such as Furby Island or the G.I. Joe animated films that were released in the 2000s alongside the previous generation of My Little Pony, But Hasbro wanted something forward-looking this time, A proper episodic television series that is not just driven as an advertising tool to sell toys, but to have a lot of things that the previous three generations of My Little Pony up to that point didn't have before. Hasbro's marketing for Transformers and G.I. Joe films and their merchandising prowess were successful, but those brands weren't paying for Paramount and Hasbro themselves as fast enough as they were in the box office, So they looked inward for ideas of what to do when incorporating a reboot of My Little Pony, some voices saw the potential for Lauren Faust's interpretation of My Little Pony and urged Hasbro not to waste it, to have a whole roadmap of future stories, ready for potentially many years from now. (Kinda funny how Equestria and its settings looked similar to Far Far Away from Shrek, huh.) Like a Big Bang, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic was a success, a combination of good marketing, super affordable products and a deeply engaging world. The story is actually pretty simple.... "Once upon a time in the Magical land of Equestria, There lived two regal Alicorn sisters who ruled with harmony throughout the land, with the elder sister having to raise the Sun at dawn, while the younger sister would raise the Moon to start the night. As time went by, The younger sister became resentful as she refused to lower the Moon to make way for sunrise, therefore corrupting herself in dark magic, becoming a wicked mare of Darkness who threatened to cover the entire land in eternal night, Reluctantly, the elder sister harnessed the powers of six prismatic elemental gems called The Elements of Harmony to banish her sister to the Moon for a thousand years and took responsibility for raising and lowering both the Sun and Moon and harmony has been maintained for generations since, A prophecy was made in which Six Guardians of Friendship would come forth together and free the land from the Wicked Mare of Darkness' reign of chaos and restore harmony throughout the land"....
